• Don’t wait for things to get better. Life will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now, otherwise you’ll run out of time.

                                            Criticism 

     Man is not perfect. So his actions. According to a saying in Sanskrit, the lines of thinking are different and not the same in all. Likewise knowledge and education varies from person to person. Criticism is nothing but a technique of judging the positive and negative aspects of his action or work by the knowledgeable persons or experts towards the possibility of improvement of the same.

Criticism and dissent are positive elements in the lives of individuals and societies. Criticism is nothing but a part of intellectual exchange. “ Criticism may not be agreeable  but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. “ It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things and hence scope for improvement.

Just for the sake of criticism, one shouldn’t criticize. The critique should be intelligent and knower of the subject on which he is basing his comments.

Don’t criticize what you can’t understand. In the words of Alfred Tennyson,

“ Once in a golden hour, 

   I cast to Earth a seed,

   Up there came a flower,

  The purple said, a weed.”

Criticism is the backbone of appreciation in literature. The poet writes , but it’s the readers who enjoy it. The famous Sanskrit poet Kalidasa while writing his immortal epic Raghuvamsham ( Great line of Raghu , the great king) requests wise men to go through his poem to assess it. In his words,

“ Then be it heard by the wise, who can well discern between good and bad; The purity of gold as well as its impurity is tested in the ( refining ) fire.”

Thus Literary criticism is a must and a welcome feature as it helps the readers to understand and appreciate deeper meanings and its impact on society and culture.

           Once a painter wanted to draw the most beautiful thing on his canvas. To find out, he went to a wiseman, a preacher and put his question to him. The wiseman said that “ Faith” is the most beautiful thing in the world. The painter wasn’t satisfied with that. He came across a lady on the way who told him “ Love” is the most beautiful thing in the world. Then he met a soldier who was tired of the horrors of war and pointed out that “ Peace” is the most beautiful thing in the world. He asserted , “ Where there’s peace, there’s beauty”.

How to draw faith, love and peace ?

The painter went home. He saw faith in the eyes of his dear children, love sparkling in the face of his beloved wife. Faith and love built up in the block peace, all he saw in his home. Immediately he draw the most beautiful thing in his canvas - the drawing “ Home”.

• Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love, to work and to play, help others and to look up to Nature in all her forms whether sky, mountains, rivers, oceans , birds, animals or anything. Sometimes Nature can give you what people fail to do.

            At the mention of the festival approaching, there surges in every one, an indescribable joy from within, looking forward to be with the loved ones, enjoying in sharing special delicious dishes and gifts with all, an inner bloom giving rise to an overwhelming feelings of love, kindness, a sense of friendliness, service and gratitude, and above all a feeling of oneness with all crossing the man-created artificial barriers of caste, creed, color, age, sex , rich, poor etc. It's joy , joy everywhere. The mind becomes a magic lamp. The spirit of joy is within every one. The source is the mind of man, which is a natural fountain of joy and peace. Remember you may be one person in this vast world, but opening up your real mind to Love, Kindness, Gratitude, and Service , you can surcharge the entire atmosphere with a festivity of joy, even might become a world to some one.

One day, a poor boy who used to drop newspapers at door to door, work in stores for few hours available after school hours to pay for his education, suddenly felt hungry in the morning while doing the home delivery of papers. He checked his packets to realize that he had only little money with him, not quite enough to pay for a drink or snack. He decided to ask for some food at the next house he was to drop the paper, and knocked the door. A gentle-mannered young woman opened the door with a kind smell. He handed her that day's Newspaper, and instead asking for some solid food, asked for a glass of water. Sensing he young boy's hunger, the young lady offered him a huge glass of fresh fruit juice. He was very happy, and after drinking it , with a feeling of gratitude, asked her, " Madam, how much do I owe you ?." She replied, " My mother never taught me not to expect, and accept anything for doing any kind deed to someone, but an opportunity given to serve the Lord." The boy was overwhelmed, and replied, " Thank you madam from the bottom of my heart !"

Years later, the same woman who now was old was admitted to a hospital where doctor William Jones was working as a specialist in treating rare diseases. He helped many poor brilliant students aspiring for medical profession with funds, guidance, and imparting his vast knowledge and experience. He gave free treatment to poor patients. His smiling face, kindness and vast knowledge, dedication towards his profession spread joy in all . He was very popular.  He was life and world to many. When he heard the name of the new patient admitted, her city, house number, there was a flash back to his past. He immediately recognized, and after returning to his room , he had already made up his mind to the best for her. With day and night doing research studies , consulting his friends from other countries, paying minute attention to her case moment by moment, and after long battle with her rare, mysterious illness Dr. William Jones was able to cure her completely , and a real fulfillment in bringing her back to normalcy.

The doctor instructed the administration to send the concerned bill to him for authorization. He took the bill, paid it, and wrote something on the margin of the bill, and send the same to the lady in an envelope.

The lady was already worried about the huge bill and thinking of various means to pay. when the envelope reached her, with trembling hands out of anxiety she opened it thinking how she was going to pay the huge bill. Something caught her attention . In the margin of the bill she read these beautiful words:-

" Paid in full with a glass of fresh fruit juice."

she immediately visualized the face of that young boy delivering newspaper, asking for water, and thanking her profusely at the bottom of his heart when she refused to accept any monetary price for the juice she offered him out of kindness. 

Tears of boundless joy, and gratitude filled her eyes and heart. She burst forth,

Oh Lord, your ways are mysterious as always ! A small act of kindness has brought such a huge return, unexpected.

It does not cost much. A smile, a kind small act, a friendly attitude to all as they are without any difference is enough to bring joy to others as well as to one's own self. This is life. Life is an opportunity. with these qualities every one gets connected. There can never be any misery to suffer alone when one shares his good things with all. Thus make life worth living for yourself and for others.

Cherish the variety of experiences whatever your life offers. Welcome every experience, enjoy every moment of life. Make each day, a day of remembrance, learn to celebrate life as a festival,

           Because of his duty and power to save the mankind from suffering and sickness and to give life, restore health to normalcy, divinity is attributed to doctors.

According to Indian philosophy, the Supreme though only one assumes three forms and names according to His various functions. They are Brahma, the creator of the universe , Vishnu, the protector and Rudra, the destroyer of the universe, known as gods of Hindu Trinity. An ideal doctor performs all the three duties of these three gods. In treatment of sickness, the foremost duty of a doctor is to find the root-cause of the sickness  and annihilate the same. Here he plays the role of Rudra. Here the annihilation is not the total destruction of the person, but taking out the roots of illness to save the life and health of the body. While doing the function of Rudra  rooting out the base of the sickness, the doctor has to very careful, alert and cautious to remove the roots of the sickness only ,not the person. In saving the life, he is like god Vishnu who is assigned the duty of protecting the world during crisis. When the sickness is destroyed from roots, life is saved, the doctor gives tonics and nutritious diet to restore the normal health of the patient. Thus the doctor performs the duty of new creator like Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. Thus the same doctor assumes three roles that of Rudra, Vishnu and Brahma according to the nature of his duties towards the patient.

Nothing is more apt than the beautiful lines of Voltaire,

“ Men who are occupied in the restoration of health to other men, by the joint exertion of skill and humanity are above all the great of the earth. They even partake of divinity, since to preserve and renew is almost as noble as to create”.
